CHICAGO TEENS DANCE THEIR WAY TO SOUTH AFRICA
On Friday, March 26, 2010 the Consul General Nomvume P. Magaqa and Consul Economic Mr. Charles Manuel visited with the 4 Chicago teens who won a trip to South Africa to congratulate them on winning and bidding them a successful and rewarding stay in South Africa. The group honoured the Consul General with a special dance recital, featuring part of their ballet repertoire and the Diski Dance.
In September 2009, South African Tourism launched the World Cup in Chicago. One of the highlights of the weekend activities was 150 teens performing the Diski Dance (this is a dance created specifically for the World Cup). Pierre Lockett, director of the Joffrey Ballet’s community engagement program will also be accompanying the teens. Mr. Lockett picked the four students, part of the Exelon Strobel Step-Up scholarship program because of their attendance and commitment. They left Chicago for South Africa on Saturday, March 27th, 2010.
