The South African Consulate General in Chicago participated in the International Women’s Day fair that was hosted by the international Visitors Centre on Monday, 8 March 2010. Ms. Tiego Motlhamme – Consul Political and Ms. Esther Fillmore – Information Officer were in attendance . International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide annually on 8 March. The focus of the celebration varies from the show of appreciation, love and respect for women to acknowledging the social, economic and political achievements of women across the globe. The roles played by women have evolved since International Women’s Day was first celebrated more than 90 years ago, however the challenges still remain. The City of Chicago is a home to multiple local and international organizations focused on women’s issues.
